PREMISES COMMITTEE

Chair 2003/2004 – Mr Cliff Haynes
The Premises Committee considers all matters relating to the buildings and grounds and is responsible for recommending repairs, improvements and developments to the Governing Body. The committee met on five occasions during the academic year and members of the committee visited the school on numerous other occasions.
The last year has seen progress on a number of improvement projects throughout the school and the planning / development of the Science facilities following the successful bid by Nonsuch for Specialist Science Status.
Sports Hall
During the Spring Term and Easter Holidays work was completed on the Sports Hall soundproofing to permit the full use of this facility not only for sports but to enable the school to more effectively accommodate the external examinations. Agreement has also been reached for the completion of work on the school field which will be carried out during the Autumn Term 2004.
Office Space
As part of the government’s Workforce Remodelling reforms that are intended to reduce the administrative burden on teaching staff, it has been necessary to provide further office space within the school to accommodate additional support staff. These works were completed during the Summer Term and holidays ready for the commencement of the new school year.
IT Network
During the year the school IT network has been extended and improved to continue the expansion of effective and up to date computer systems for all staff and pupils. In a new development, interactive whiteboards have been installed in eighteen classrooms, which will enable teaching staff to introduce even more interesting and stimulating ways of educating the girls.

Specialist Science Status

As an integral part of the Specialist Science Status bid, the school developed proposals for bringing all of the three sciences together within the main school. This has been an objective of the school for a number of years and, with the successful bid for Specialist Status, it is now possible to realise this ambition. The work on the new laboratories commenced in the Summer Term and it is anticipated that the new accommodation will be ready for use in the Summer Term 2005. Once the new Science facilities are in use, the school will look to improve and develop the facilities for Art, Technology and Drama.
In conclusion, the Premises Committee is very pleased with the progress that has been made both on major projects and general improvement / refurbishment works that have been completed throughout the school in the last year.
