PERSONNEL
COMMITTEE
Chair
2003/2004 Mr Chris Parker
The Personnel Committee considers all staffing issues and ensures that
the Governing Body meets its obligations within current employment legislation
as a responsible employer.
The teaching and support staff structures are reviewed annually to ensure
both effective delivery of the curriculum and support services within
the constraints of the annual budget.
A key responsibility of this committee is to ensure the schools
various Policy Notes relating to areas of staffing and employment are
regularly reviewed and consistent with current legislation. During the
last year, policies on Staff Recruitment and Induction
of New Staff, among many others, were reviewed.
The Committee received regular reports on the Performance Management programme,
ensuring that Governors are aware of how the School is deriving benefits
from setting and reviewing targets.
This year, the Committee has continued to review the Governments
Workforce Remodelling initiative. The three stages are:
1. Reduction of administrative tasks routinely undertaken by teachers
in line with the Governments published 25 tasks. The School has addressed
these issues.
2. By September 2004, limiting cover for absent teaching colleagues to
no more than 38 hours in the academic year. Currently, teachers at Nonsuch
do less than 38 hours.
3. By September 2005, providing teachers with guaranteed preparation time
and providing the Head Teacher with a work/life balance. The Leadership
Team is addressing the issue of guaranteed preparation time. The Governing
Body is responsible for assessing the Head Teachers work/life balance.
With such an important asset as its highly qualified subject specialists,
Nonsuch continues to provide the right balance of staff for its students.
In order to maintain this, a high priority is placed on staff recruitment
and retention and we continue to strive towards maintaining the best possible
pupil/staff ratio within the available budget resources.
The Committee also monitors the working environment and Health & Safety
in the workplace issues.
