DESTINATIONS OF YEAR 13 LEAVERS IN 2004

A-Level results day this August was a very positive experience with the overwhelming majority of girls securing their first choice of university course. Students have this autumn taken up higher education places across Britain to pursue academic degree studies, vocational training or preparation for the professions.

The programme of support for students applying to Higher Education or moving into the world of work covers an 18 month period. In applying for some of the most competitive university places in the country students are advantaged by the range of extension activities on offer at Nonsuch. Participation in an ambitious range of extra-curricular activities or success in Advanced Extension Awards helps to highlight the intellectual curiosity and academic achievement of our sixth form students.

Seven students secured Oxbridge places this year on courses in English, History, French and Mechanical Engineering. Four students are embarking on medical training with others being awarded places to read Dentistry or Veterinary Science. Other vocational courses which were popular this year included Physiotherapy and Optometry. Psychology and Law degrees had high uptake but we still had individual students beating new paths in subjects such as Japanese Studies, Oceanography and Portuguese.

We are always pleased to hear about the successes of the students who have left us and we look forward, at the Leavers’ Evening in January 2005, to being updated on the progress of the class of 2004.
