NONSUCH HIGH SCHOOL for GIRLS
GOVERNORS REPORT 2002-2003

DESTINATIONS OF YEAR 13 LEAVERS IN 2003

Once again excellent A-level results enabled most students to proceed to their chosen courses at Higher Education.  Academic degree studies, vocational training and preparation for the professions covered a very wide range and this year more than usual opted for a gap year; we have students across the globe. One is even studying Mathematics at university in Iceland.

Eleven students were offered places at Oxbridge colleges having benefited from dedicated teaching and additional preparation for competitive entry interviews.  Two decided that they would not take up their offer finding other courses better suited to their career aspirations.  The most popular destination was King’s College, London, with other London colleges and local universities not far behind, perhaps an indication of economic necessity.  Other students are spread into a huge range of institutions across the country from Aston, Birmingham, Bristol, City and Durham to Plymouth, Reading, UCL Westminster and York.

This year, in addition to medicine, students are studying a wide range of para-medical subjects from audiology and optometry to speech science and experimental psychology. A very good set of biology results led to courses in nursing with the RAF, human biology, molecular genetics and sports science.  Physical sciences were represented by engineering and electronics and the chemical sciences in biochemistry and chemistry with management. Following a more vocational route we have students taking music, architecture, art foundation courses as well as retail management, fashion merchandising and water sports studies.
