Active Citizenship
On Saturday 6 November, 21 students and 4 staff volunteers swam a total
of 852 lengths in 30 minutes whilst taking part in a charity Swimathon
at Epsom College. They were raising money for Rotary and School charities.
Many thanks to Mrs Forkan for organising the event once again and well
done to all those who took part.
Operation Christmas child
Once again, Nonsuch students took part in what has become an annual Christmas
event. The whole school is involved collecting and decorating shoeboxes
and filling them with gifts to be sent to children in need at Christmas
all over the world. Once again the Nonsuch community was overwhelmingly
generous and we collected a total of 165 boxes together with over £400
distribution cost donations. Thank you all for taking part.
Comic Relief and Active Citizenship Week
During the 14-18 March, the Main School held Active Citizenship Week.
A number of small events were run by individual groups including: a Year
7 'Bring and Buy Sale', Year 8 sponsored silence and PJ Day, Year 9 red
food for sale, Year 10 Film clubs and Year 11 Fair Trade stall run by
Susanna Hartland, who has so far raised over £700 this year. The
main events included a joint Comic Relief and Science Pub style. quiz
and Mufti Day. We were fortunate to have visits from Mrs Shealagh Dixon
from the InterAKtive charity and from the Hearing Dogs Charity owners
and three dogs at different stages of training. With the money raised
we will be supporting a number of charities including: Sport Relief, Hearing
Dogs, InteraKtive and in light of recent events in Japan the students
have overwhelmingly voted to support the Earthquake and Tsunami appeal
raising over £1400 so far in addition to over £1000 during
the week.
