Results
Best ever Results - at both A-level and GCSE
August 2009
Public examination results at Nonsuch High School this year
have broken all previous school records. The number of top grades attained
by both Year 13 and Year 11 students has exceeded that achieved by previous
year groups.
A-Level results
87.01% of the 503 exam entries this year (excluding Critical Thinking)
were awarded A or B grades. This represents a 5% increase in top grades
since last year. Students throughout the year group are jubilant. One
student gained six A-grades; a further 12 students achieved five straight
As. Seventeen girls will be taking up Oxbridge places - another school
record.
Nonsuch is a leading school in the teaching of Critical Thinking. We remain
one of very few schools in either the maintained or the independent sector
to enter all our students for this challenging course which develops thinking
and reasoning skills and is much valued by universities. A 60% increase
in the achievement of A and B grades in the subject here this year, and
a 99.3% pass rate, testify not only to the achievement of the students,
but also to the success of the teaching team in developing this course.
Mrs Genefer Espejo, Headmistress, who retires this month, is delighted
with exam results that demonstrate the exceptionally high achievement
of girls completing their school education at Nonsuch. "Everyone
in the school community is justifiably proud of these outstanding results.
The talent and ambition of the students, the expertise and commitment
of school staff, and the support and encouragement of parents are all
reflected in these grades. As one of the highest attaining schools in
the country, Nonsuch is very well placed as it embarks on the next stage
of its development. And I'm personally delighted for each and every one
of these A-level candidates."
GCSE Results
84% of the 2180 entries at GCSE this year were awarded A* or A grades.
93 % of Nonsuch students gained 5 or more of these top grades, with one
student achieving a staggering 14 A* grades. Every Nonsuch candidate attained
the DCSF benchmark of 5 GCSE passes at grades A* - C including Mathematics
and English.
A Specialist School for both Science and Languages, Nonsuch has bucked
National trends in both areas. All students took the more demanding triple
Science route, with 88% of Science entries gaining A* or A grades. Similarly
all Year 11 students took at least one modern foreign language, with 72.3%
of entries gaining the top grades. Thirty two gifted Year 10 linguists
took a language (German or Italian) a year early and 80% of these entries
gained A* or A grades. Ninety six Year 10 students were fast-tracked in
Maths - and every single student attained at the top levels, 90% of them
attaining the A*.
Mrs Espejo congratulated students as they collected their results. Commenting
on the second record-breaking statistics to be released in a fortnight
she said, "these students have delighted themselves and us with their
results. They have proven to themselves that they can achieve whatever
they set their sights on. The excitement in school this morning was tangible
- these girls certainly have a lot to celebrate!"
