Welcome to the
Science Department website at
Nonsuch High School for Girls.
Following our
designation as a Science
Specialist School in September 2003 and an extensive building project,
the Science Department now boasts 11 state-of-the-art teaching laboratories and two
new preparation rooms.
Our new suite also benefits from wireless networking and the majority of
laboratories are now equipped with interactive whiteboards. The
Science Department is also proud to have the exclusive use of our own
ecology areas consisting of a woodland, meadow and pond. Our
highly qualified and experienced team of sixteen full-time and three
part-time teachers are supported by four specialist technicians.
At KS3 (years 7-9) students follow the Heinneman scheme, at KS4 (years
10 & 11) students can either study the AQA Dual Award course leading
to two GCSE qualifications or single awards in each of the three sciences.
The Science curriculum is presently undergoing a series of changes and
Nonsuch is at the forefront of the preparations for the new GCSE courses
that will begin in September 2006.
At AS and A level we offer five subjects; Biology, Human Biology,
Chemistry, Psychology and Physics. Many of our girls go on to read
Science based courses (including Medicine and Engineering) at University.
