SPANISH AT KS5

Students follow the AQA course at AS and A2. For detailed information, including the course specification please visit the AQA website at: http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/gce/spanish_new.php

Students learn to express ideas and points of view in more complex, extended Spanish. Equal time is spent in developing their skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. We issue students with the 'Animo' textbook as well as the accompanying 'Animo' grammar workbook.

The main topics for AS come under the umbrella headings of Media, Popular Culture, Healthy living/Lifestyle, and Family/Relationships and the varied sub-topics include television, advertising, technology, cinema, fashion, trends, health, sport, well-being and relationships.

At A2 the key topic areas are: Environment, the Multicultural Society, and Contemporary Social issues. In addition, students undertake detailed study of two cultural topics. For these we offer an introduction to Lorca and the Spanish film director, Carlos Saura.

The programme provides scope for the study of lively and positive topics, with opportunities to build up a wide range of vocabulary and to gain greater understanding of Spanish Grammar.

Students in year 12 are invited to attend the Residential Study Tour to Spain. Previous destinations have included Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Granada.
