  THE FRENCH DEPARTMENT

French is a popular, successful subject at Nonsuch with a team of 9 teachers, including 2 native speakers. The Department is led by an excellent Head of French who demands, and consistently achieves, the best for all her students.

At KS3 there are 4 classes of French in years 7, 8 and 9. All students study within their form groups until they reach year 10 when they make their choices for GCSE.
All students use the 'Encore Tricolore' series of text books throughout the course. They study a variety of topics in a communicative way to enable them to manage day-to-day real-life situations. All students will have the opportunity to use the new multimedia language centre from September 2009.

At KS4 the demand for the subject remains consistently high with 3 classes at GCSE. Students will start the new Edexcel specification from September 2009. Students are now required to sit the final examination in the skills of Reading and Listening. The other 2 elements of the GCSE, Speaking and Writing are tested by the completion of controlled assessments through years 10 and 11
