Geographers at Nonsuch know
where they're going!
In the classroom
Earthquakes and Volcanoes,
Raging Rivers, Wild Weather, Collapsing Cliffs and Developing
Countries are some of the wide range of topics we learn
about from Years 7 to 9 and in more depth at GCSE. Geography
is offered at AS/A2 level where issues such as City Management,
Population Pressures and Geomorphological Hazards are studied.
There are 4 Geography Teachers
experienced and well-travelled. We have a suite of 4 bright,
well-resourced classrooms. Each classroom is equipped with
the latest in digital projection technology and use is made
of the Department's extensive digital Intranet teaching
resources. A variety of up-to-date textbooks, atlases, journals
and videos are used in all lessons.
Out and about!
Students are encouraged to
set out and explore their environment:
- Year 7 pupils travel to
Le Touquet, northern France to investigate the geography
of a French seaside resort.
- Year 8 pupils investigate
coastal landforms and management on the south coast.
- GCSE pupils investigate
the relationship between geology, landscapes and land
use on the North Downs. In addition GCSE coursework data
collection takes place on the River Tillingbourne.
- Sixth Form pupils venture
further with expeditions to the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland
forming a regular additional highlight of geographical
education at Nonsuch. Year 12 pupils will be travelling
to Barcelona for their residential field course in February
2007.
