Business Studies,
Economics & Sociology at Nonsuch
The three
subjects are taught within the one department by three members of staff.
Economics and Sociology are offered to AS and A2 levels at KS5 following
the AQA syllabi. Business studies is taught as a Short Course at KS4 using
the OCR syllabus. Economics is also available as an Advanced Extension
option to some students.
More detailed information about the courses offered in the department
can be found in the KS4 options booklet, the opportunities in the sixth
form booklet and in the department's own booklet issued to sixth formers.
All are available in school.
Statutory
provision for work-related learning and Enterprise Education (WRL/EE)
is organised within the department, working closely with the Heads of
years 10 and 11, as well as the Head of Careers and the teacher responsible
for citizenship. Students at KS4 have experience of WRL/EE in various
ways. These range from activities built into the PHSE programmes and whole
day year group industry days, to a full careers programme and careers
convention.
In addition
around half of the year group follow the Business Studies Short Course
and all departments are routinely required to identify and highlight WRL/EE
elements in their Schemes of Work and consequent lessons. We also recognise
and contribute to the newly-designated 'Enterprise Week' which occurs
in the Autumn term.
The
Sixth Form Rag week raised over £10,000 for the Lisa Thaxter Trust.
