Extra-curricular activities.

The department promotes a wide range of activities designed to meet the needs and aspirations of the students at the school.

"Excellent provision is made for extra-curricular activities and regular opportunity is provided for students to perform in concerts both in and out of school " OFSTED 2004

Performing

Performing opportunities in school for the Juniors (Years 7-9) include Junior Orchestra, Junior Flute Choir, Junior Choir and Year 7 Choir. These groups perform in school concerts at least twice a year and there are also opportunities for performances at other venues. This year Junior Choir won a shield in the Sutton Music Festival and sang at the Toyota Schools' Concert in Croydon. Year 7 Choir sang in Making Waves in the Albert Hall with singers from 4 London Boroughs.

Senior students may take part in the String Orchestra, Senior Orchestra, Swing Band, Senior Flute Ensemble, Senior Choir, Chamber Choir and Vox Celestes Choir. Many of these groups are well known in the local community.

The school's smaller ensembles, including the string quartets, are in demand for performing at various events such as weddings, charity events, civic functions etc.
Other regular ensembles include clarinet ensemble, guitar ensemble, brass group and there are numerous pop groups within the school.

Composing

Composing enrichment is available in lunch hours to all students given by our composer in residence. Students have access to Sibelius software for printing scores and our technician can record their compositions on CD.
