Years 7,8 and 9


At Key Stage Three pupils have one hourly lesson per week in music. Classes alternate between our composition teaching room and our performance teaching room each half term, with access to all equipment in both. Through our recording studio facility there are opportunities for pupils to have their compositions and performances put onto Cd at the end of each project.

AIMS

  • To deliver a broad and balanced curriculum within the attainment targets of the National Curriculum at Key Stage Three.
  • To offer a logical and accessible progression into music at Key Stage Four.
  • To promote a positive learning environment in which all pupils can achieve musically, regardless of their musical background or ability.
  • To enable pupils to build on skills in performance and composition.
  • To encourage pupils to listen objectively to all types of music.
  • To develop pupil understanding of the elements of music through their performance, composition and listening experience.
  • To monitor the progress of each pupil regularly.
  • To offer a variety of extra-curricular music activities and peripatetic instrumental lessons which complement work in the classroom.
  • To increase the self esteem of pupils and engender an enthusiasm for the subject.

All pupils will be assessed each half term and will be given a national curriculum level based on work produced in the following projects:

Year 8 Compositions Bhangra Music for Dance Minimalism
Year 8 Performances Blues Britpop Musical Eras

Year 9 Performances Musicals Theme and Variation Jazz
