Opportunities in the Sixth Form 2011- 2013
League tables this year again placed Nonsuch among the top performing
schools in the country, 13th amongst Grammar Schools according to the
Guardian. 87% of subject entries at A-Level were graded at A or B, of
which 17% were graded A*. Eight Nonsuch students secured Oxbridge places.
A glowing Ofsted report in January 2008 described the Sixth Form as
'good with outstanding features'. It also said that 'students' progress
is good with exceptionally high standards' and 'Sixth Form students
are proud of their responsibilities that add to community cohesion and
the school.' Ofsted recognised the important contribution Critical Thinking
has in supporting and enriching the curriculum.
With a Sixth Form of 360 students, Nonsuch is able to offer 26 different
AS/AL courses whilst providing individual care and mentoring. Pupils
joining Year 12 in 2011 will study in a stimulating learning environment
with dedicated specialist teachers at this excellent school set in 22
acres next to Nonsuch Park. Students go on to study a broad range of
subjects at the most prestigious universities.
All students benefit from the purpose-built specialist accommodation,
and our designation as a Science Specialist School in 2004 has provided
us with a new suite of refurbished laboratories, ICT facilities and
an Astronomy Dome. More recently Nonsuch was designated a Specialist
School for Languages and all students will be able to benefit from the
wide range of opportunities this will provide as well as from a new
digital language laboratory. Challenges abound at Nonsuch, in and out
of the classroom. Rag Week - a charity extravaganza run by the Sixth
Form - is a highlight of the school calendar. New entrants quickly settle
and enjoy extra-curricular societies including Astronomy, Dance, Drama,
and many sports. The school has superb PE facilities: private access
to the David Lloyd Leisure Centre swimming-pool supplements our all-weather
pitch, courts and fields. As a centre of excellence for music, Nonsuch
provides opportunities to take part in many choirs, orchestras and chamber
groups, including the very popular Jazz Band and Gospel Choir.
We have a strong and articulate Sixth Form and we value the student
voice: sixth formers are represented by their own Association and play
an invaluable part - in a number of roles - in wider school life. The
Sixth Form at Nonsuch is a vibrant community where learning is fun and
achievements are celebrated. Visit our website at: www.nonsuchhigh.co.uk
