Parent and Stakeholder Consultation: Admissions
2012
Nonsuch High School for Girls recently consulted widely in the local
community and further afield on new admission arrangements for Years
7 and 12 and for mid-term admissions. In total, we received 21 responses,
one of which came from the Governing Body of a Primary School.
At the full Governing Body meeting on 31 March 2011, the Governors of
the School considered the representations from all parties concerned.
They then ratified all of the proposed changes, which can now be viewed
in our Admissions Policy and Frequently Asked Questions.
In summary, the main changes are:
Year 7 Admissions
-
our transfer to high school (TTHS) testing day has
moved from a Saturday to a weekday;
- we will use three tests for admission
to Year 7, namely a verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and an English
comprehension test;
- we will no longer send tests abroad for candidates
unable to sit the test at the School;
Mid-Term Admissions - students who sit a mid-term admissions test but
are unsuccessful in securing a place at the School will only be eligible
to rejoin the waiting list if they were deemed to be of selective ability
in that test. In addition, students not deemed of selective ability
in the transfer to high school test will not be eligible to join the
waiting list at all for mid-term admissions. Students may apply to enter
the Schools Sixth Form at a later date;
- we will no longer send
tests abroad for candidates unable to sit the test at the school;
Sixth Form Admissions - we will base entry to the Sixth Form on the average
point score of the capped eight best GCSE (or IGCSE) scores;
- the minimum
average point score for entry to the Sixth Form will rise to 50 points.
The changes to admissions to Years 7 and 12 apply for entry to the
School from September 2012
.
In the case of the new arrangements concerning mid-term admissions,
any student currently on our waiting list will be allowed to sit the
test for admission again after 15 April 2011, should a place become
available. If they are not deemed to be of selective ability after that
test, they will be removed from our waiting list and will not be eligible
to apply for a place at the School again until the Sixth Form
